After carefully reviewing the options for places, Ekmattra has bought one hectar of land in Halughat and started constructing the Children’s Village Halughat there in 2010. This place was chosen due to its relative shelter from natural disasters and the harmonious coexistence of various communities and open societal make-up.

In the Children’s Village there will be a separate elementary school. The secondary education will be provided by schools in the area. The formal education will be complemented by technical and ethical classes as well as cultural activities. This will allow the children to have an overall growth and explore their hidden potentials.

In addition to the school, accommodation for the inhabitants and employees will be provided. Working and administrative facilities, a bakery, an infirmary and playgrounds for the children will also be available.

The whole infrastructure is designed such as to give the residents of the village a feeling of living in a big happy family.

The children shall grow up under equal circumstances irrespective of their cast creed or religion. They should feel loved and secure and hence have the courage to break free from the shackles of the fate prescribed to them and find their own place in society outside the Children’s Village.

We believe that the Children’s Village will have a positive impact on the community and help in further promoting and encouraging education among the villagers.

The village was designed as a role model to inspire further development projects of this nature in Bangladesh and other poor nations.

Ekmattra wrote a feasibility report for the first three years and found that the Children’s Village should be self-sustainable within six months.
